Part A:
General Provisions and Retirement
Part A deals with legal formalities (Rules A1 and A2), the scope of the provisions (Rules A3 to A6) and certain key definitions which govern entitlements (Rules A7 to A12). These include reckoning of service (Rule A7), and disablement (Rule A10).
Part A also gives the normal pension age for firefighters (Rule A13) and explains the circumstances in which they can be compulsorily retired (Rules A14 to A15).
Rule A2 refers to Schedule 1 which contains a glossary of expressions.
Rules A9 and A11 were removed from the FPS 2006 with effect from 1 April 2006. They related to injury and the provisions were transferred to the Firefighters' Compensation Scheme. The explanation of these Rules has been retained in this Commentary as "archived" material.
